Doll Wig Care

Very Curly or Prestyled (Braids, etc) Wigs

Wigs that have small curls, Afro style, or come in twists or braids should not be brushed with a hair brush as this will ruin the intended style. This type of wig is generally intended for adult collectors, display only dolls, or older children that will handle the hair with great care. For small curls, the wig can be spritzed with water and restyled with your fingers or wrapped around small curlers as needed.

Brushing

Only brush your wig with a wire wig brush. These can be purchased through a variety of doll sellers and also on Amazon. Spritz wig with a light mist of water when brushing to avoid over drying of the fibers. Do not use brushes that are also used on human hair, in order to prevent transfer of product or oils. Excessive brushing, or brushing without spritz of water can cause the hair fibers to feel dry.
If the wig becomes excessively dry, you may restore some softness and shine by shampooing and conditioning - see washing below.

Washing

Wigs that are appropriately displayed (away from smoke, mildew, or overly humid environment) and only gently handled should generally not need to be washed at all. Wigs that are regularly handled and played with *may* still not need to be washed - try spritzing with water and brushing with a wire wig brush first.

If you must wash your doll wig, we recommend using a gentle baby shampoo or moisture shampoo, rinsed thoroughly, followed by conditioner, then rinsed again thoroughly. Let the wig air dry, then it can be gently brushed with a wire wig brush. Washing your doll wig may change the shape of any original curls or styling.

Heat Styling

All wigs in my shop (with the exception of one retired “silken” wig we don’t sell anymore) are made with fibers heat safe to 350F, when heating tools are used appropriately - heat style is at your own risk. Excessive or prolonged heat will melt the fibers. When heat styling we recommend using the lowest effective heat setting on a larger portion of hair, moving your heat tool quickly so as not to apply heat to any one section for too long. *Heat styling is done at your own risk - Dallas Doll Co is not responsible for any possible damage inflicted to your wig as a result of heat styling*

Styling / Updos

Our wigs are intended to be displayed on the doll in the manner that they were photographed. You are welcome to restyle the wig as you see fit, but please understand that unless it was photographed in a certain style, it wasn’t designed specifically with that style in mind. Most of our wigs can be put into 2 braids or pigtails, we recommend a zig zag hair part for the best coverage of the wig cap in the back. We don’t use short filler hairs because they don’t fit well with our thicker luxury designs.
See my YouTube video tutorial for tips on zig zag part here
Our wigs are designed to be thicker than the factory wig that originally came on your doll to give your doll an aesthetic of luxury. Due to the added thickness, some hair styles may be more difficult to do with a custom designer wig.
